Healthy Bones Australia has released National and State based Burden of Disease Reports demonstrating prevalence and cost impact of osteoporosis and related fractures in Australia. This section of the website also includes the National Strategic Action Plan for Osteoporosis and several editions of the Community Risk Report presenting de-identified data from the Know Your Bones online consumer self-assessment. Consumer Focus

National initiatives to inform consumers about protecting bone health and understanding risks for developing osteoporosis.

  • Know Your Bones is an online self-assessment tool for consumers based on Australian research and developed in partnership with The Garvan Institute of Medical Research. It is an easy first step for adults to understand risks associated to bone health and provides a report that can be discussed with a GP if required. Over 107,000 Australian have completed the assessment. Sally Pearson OAM, Olympic and World Champion is the current Know Your Bones Ambassador
  • Rural and Remote campaign – This program has included working with bone density services and rural GPs to encourage investigation of at risk patients. The broad promotion of Know Your Bones self-assessment to many local communities which can be easily accessed online.
  • Consumer Fact Sheets – Easily accessed by Health Professionals to help explain numerous health conditions and medications and their impact on bone health.
