Healthy Bones Australia has developed a range of strategic and burden of disease reports. They present a clear picture of the impact of osteoporosis and related fractures in Australia and a pro-active approach to reduce the impact.

Know Your Bones Community Risk Report – Third Edition 2023

This report was released at Parliament House Canberra at an event hosted by the Parliamentary Friends of Aged Care, Co-Chaired by Dr Mike Freelander MP and Rebekah Sharkie MP, and officially launched by the Hon Emma McBride MP Assistant Minister for Rural and Regional Health, on 19 October. The report developed by Healthy Bones Australia includes de-identified data from more than 104,000 Australians who have completed the Know Your Bones online self-assessment tool developed by Healthy Bones Australia in partnership with the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. The tool helps Australians understand their potential risk for developing osteoporosis, and related bone breaks. The Know Your Bones program was developed in response to the growing prevalence of osteoporosis and related fractures in Australia.

National Strategic Action Plan for Osteoporosis – 2019

Launched by Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt MP in October 2019, this National Action Plan (NAP) outlines the 3 key Priority Areas and related actions for reducing the impact of osteoporosis as a chronic disease in Australia (overview included, report length 34 pages)

Position Statement on Improving Bone Health and Osteoporosis Management in Australia

Statement from National Consumer and Community Forum (Nov 2020) outlining specific recommendations and actions to improve the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis and overall bone health across the community. The Forum included patients living with osteoporosis, GPs, medical specialist groups, hospital clinicians, National and State policy-makers, professional associations, health organisations, community support groups and bone health-related organisations.

Know Your Bones Community Risk Report – Previous Editions

The inaugural Know Your Bones report was launched in 2018 based on de-idenfied data which was self-reported by the Australia community using the online self-assessment questionnaire. The second edition report was released in the lead up to World Osteoporosis Day 2021 indicating risk factors for osteoporosis are not routinely investigated and demonstrated a gap in osteoporosis care across Australia.
